The murdered woman could have been her double. When reporter Meghan Collins sees the sheet-wrapped corpse in a New York City hospital, she feels as if she's staring into her own face. And Meghan has troubles enough already without this bizarre experience. Nine months ago, her much-loved father's car spun off a New York bridge, Now, investigators are saying that there's no trace of his car in the river, and they suspect he faked his own death. With frightening speed, links start to appear between Meghan's father and her dead lookalike. Meghan may be in danger herself, but she's determined to find the truth to the mystery. In a nightmare journey spiraling from New York to Connecticut to Arizona, Meghan finds that the truth can sometimes be deadly.
This was a typical MHC murder mystery. It is easy and fast to read. Interesting twist at the end.
Moon Music by Faye Kellerman
Seasoned police veteran and Vegas native Detective Sergeant Romulus Poe has seen his fair share of depravity in this mecca of glitz and vice. But there is something about this unfortunate woman's death-and a similar murder that is to follow soon after-that harkens back to an unsolved slaying and so-called suicide a quarter century ago. The grim similarities-along with some frightening new possibilities-are leading Poe into a night world of dark shadows best left unilluminated and pulling the inquisitive policeman toward secrets from a strange and sordid past that could destroy those closest to him, and drag him over the edge.
I have to say this book was weird, bizarre and disappointing. It didn't make a lot of sense even accepting the fact that it was all based on science fiction, fantasy, werewolves which was quite unexpected at the beginning. I had to reread portions to 'get it'! Not her usual style of writing.
Crash and Burn by Lisa Gardner
Nicole Frank shouldn't have survived the car accident, much less the crawl up the steep ravine. One thought allows her to defy the odds and flag down help-she must save Vero.
If the girl even exists.
Arriving at the scene, Sergeant Wyatt Foster joins the desperate hunt for a missing child, only to learn that Nicky suffers from a rare brain injury that causes delusions. According to her husband, there is no child. Never has been. And yet Nicky remains adamant, She must save Vero.
For Wyatt and investigators Tessa Leoni, nothing about this case is simple. It turns out Nicky has suffered more than one close call. Is she indeed delusional, as her husband claims? Or perhaps she knows more than she thinks. Because clearly someone out there won't rest 'til Nicky crashes and burns.
I really enjoyed this book. There were so many twists and turns. You think you've got it figured out and then something happens to make you doubt what you thought was happening. The conclusions are pretty devastating and sad. A real page turner.
The Devil You Know
The year is 1993. Crime beat reporter Evie Jones is haunted by the unsolved murder of her best friend, Lianne Gagnon, back when both girls were only eleven. The suspected killer, a repeat offender named Robert Cameron, was never apprehended, leaving Lianne's case cold.
Now twenty-one and living alone for the first time, Evie is obsessively drawn to finding out what really happened to Lianne. When the Internet arrives in the newsroom, Evie dives into the new world of information at her fingertips, but every clue she uncovers seems to lead to an unimaginable conclusion. As she gets closer to the truth, Evie becomes convinced that the killer is still at large-and that he's coming back for her...
To use a sentence I read on 'Goodreads' this book is 'Awful! Slow, repetitive, weak, absolutely dreadful'. I don't know why I kept reading it, other than I hate giving up on a book and I rarely do. I hate reading books that portray women as stupid, but this main character certainly fit the bill in many of the totally unbelievable decisions she made. Nothing else to say!
That's it for now. I don't seem to be getting very many books read this year, not sure why that is.
Bye for now.
Mary Higgins Clark is one of my very favorite writers..I have read ( except for this new one) all of the MHClark books .. over the years :)
ReplyDeleteThe Lisa Gardner book sounds good. I'll have to keep a look out for it. May I recommend Sister by Rosamund Lupton (I think).
