Moving

No, we're not moving, but a house down the street did a couple of days ago.  I mean the entire house, all they left behind was the basement!
It took many days to get it to the point of actually moving it off the foundation.
This is when they had it on a huge trailer and were moving it out onto the street.  At this point they had already turned it sideways as it was too wide to move it from the front.

They unhooked it from the truck in the above picture.
The truck below is the one that will move it to it's new location.  The cab part is parked in front of our house and the end of it is 2 houses down!!

It sat there until midnight when they would start the move.  It would take 2 hours to get to the city limits, which is a distance of 10 km, and then another 4 hours to get to the small town it is going to, which is another 90 km.  We heard the truck start up at midnight, we were in bed so didn't go out and watch.
The next morning all that was left were 3 big oil patches on the road in front of our house, thanks guys, and a big hole where the house was.
That was something we'll probably never see again!!

  1. We used to say in the UK, 'If only we could lift this house and take it somewhere new!' Isn't it amazing that it is possible to do just that, they do that here in NZ too :D

  2. I have watched houses being moved here in Saskatchewan often. Even traveled behind them once in awhile. Takes a great deal of work.

    God bless.

  4. That's amazing, is it a regular thing? Ive seen residential caravans that come in two halves being moved but not a house.

    1. This was a regular house that has been there since this neighbourhood was developed in the 60's. I've seen houses on the highway being moved before and on the tv but never in a neighbourhood. This was a first for us!

  6. It would be great to buy a piece of land and be able to move your house onto it.

  7. I've seen this on TV and we've always thought it would be great to be able to life our house up and move it to where we wanted. We see static caravans being moved from site to site but it looks like child's play compared to this. xx
